Tip
- You can enroll another teacher in your course as a Collaborator Links to an external site. and he/she can then easily import content from your course into their own. They won't be able to edit or see any student data.
- Student Context Cards allow instructors and admins can click a student’s name in a course and view a sidebar-type overlay that shows quick insights and context about the student. Context cards are meant to be a simplified overview of a student’s progress.

Student Enrollment in Courses
- DAILY UPLOAD: An automated process will upload course enrollment each day ADDING students to courses every day. This upload does NOT REMOVE students.
- REMOVING STUDENTS: You can CONCLUDE a student's enrollment in one of your courses by following the steps in this short guide on Concluding a Student's Enrollment in your course. Download this short guide on Concluding a Student's Enrollment in your course.
- CONCLUDING A COURSE: Concluding a course means that all users in the course will have read-only access to the course. Based on the term for the course (Fall 2015, Year, Fall 2016, etc), a course will automatically conclude for students a few days after the last day of class. For teachers, the course will automatically conclude at a later date to allow some time for editing if needed. Concluded courses are archived and students can no longer participate in the course, nor can instructors edit the course. Do not delete your course because you will want to import content from it into the new empty course shell that you will have to use for the next time you are teaching the course.
Teacher Enrollment in Courses
New course shells will be created in Canvas in July and teachers enrolled in their courses, once they are finalized in SIS.Teachers can choose to enroll other teachers in their courses. There are roles (teacher, student, observer, etc.) that can be assigned when a person is enrolled in a course. Below are some examples of how you might use these roles.
- SPED: There's a special ed teacher working with you that needs editing rights to the course and needs to monitor the special ed students progress in the course. You could enroll him/her as a TA Links to an external site. (Teacher Assistant). If there's a special ed teacher who needs to only monitor a special ed student, you can assign them the role of observer and link him/her to that student Links to an external site.. Note: Paras do not have Canvas accounts.
- SHARING CONTENT: There's a another teacher, teaching the same course as you, and the two of you would like to be able to import content from each other's courses into your own. You do not need to edit each other courses or view any student data. In this case, you can enroll the other teacher as a Collaborator Links to an external site..
- VIEW ACCESS: There are other teachers who are interested in viewing your course to see how it is set up. They do not teach the same courses as you, so they are not interested in using any of your content in their courses. You can edit your Course Settings to set Visibility to Institution Links to an external site. and send them the web address for your course. They will have to be logged into their Canvas account to view your course. They will NOT be able to see any students or their work, edit the course, or participate in the course.
- COMMONS: The Commons is also a convenient way to share your course or certain course content with just a department, building, the District, or the entire Canvas Community.
