Your Dashboard

Your Dashboard is typically the first thing you see when you log into Canvas. The Dashboard helps you see what is happening in ALL your courses and allows you to figure out what to do next. Click the Dashboard icon in the Global Navigation strip on the left to return to the Dashboard at any point. You can customize the names and the colors of the course cards by click the edit icon in the top right corner of the card. The sidebar contains the To Do list and other sections that help you know what assignments and events are coming up in all of your courses. Use the gear in the top right corner to view your Recent Activity/Global Activity Stream.

Global Navigation

The Global Navigation at the left provides shortcuts to your courses and groups, grades, calendar, the Commons, user settings, inbox, and help resources. No matter where you are in Canvas, these shortcuts will always be available at the left of your screen.

Course Dashboard

Once you access a course, the Course Navigation menu appears on the left with links to help you get to where you want to go within the Canvas course. The right sidebar helps you see what you need to do next in your course. For teachers, it includes course management buttons. You can click the hamburger button at the top of the course menu to hide it.
